Ahmad Zeyad Abu Hussien

Ahmad is the co-founder of AZHJ and the Director of Research & Mentorship. Prior to AZHJ, Ahmad acted as rapporteur to the mayor of Amman at the Greater Amman Municipality (GAM), where he influenced urban policy development, smart transitions, climate justice, infrastructural access, and urban governance. He is an urban sociologist, award recipient, and advocate for spatial justice, boasting over 15 years of experience in research, design, and policy advisory.

Ahmad leads AZHJ’s research and consultancy efforts, specialising in urban inequalities, spatial justice, demographic shifts, and infrastructural access. His work encompasses sustainable urban development, displacement and migration, social and spatial discrimination, urban AI, and socioeconomic mobility. He has collaborated with organisations such as the World Bank, UNDP, UN-Habitat, IIED, IGC, ITF, and Friedrich Ebert Stiftung to develop policy frameworks and action plans for equitable urban growth.

Ahmad is an Atlantic Fellow for Social and Economic Equity at the Atlantic Institute in Oxford. He obtained his MSc in Inequalities and Social Science from the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE) and holds a Bachelor of Science in Architectural Engineering from the University of Jordan.

Beyond research and policy, Ahmad has taught urban design and planning at the University of Jordan and mentored students across various academic institutions. He serves on multiple professional boards, including the Urban Planning and Design Committee at the Jordan Engineers Association (JEA) and the Executive Board of the Jordanian Forum for Environmental Planning (JFEP). He has contributed to global discussions on urban development through forums such as the World Urban Forum (WUF), United Cities and Local Governments (UCLG), and the Sustainable Cities Conference (SCC).

Haroun Haitham Jweinat

Haroun is the co-founder of AZHJ, a multifaceted professional with over a decade of experience at the intersection of the arts, culture, and urbanism. He serves as the Director of Design and Logistics at AZHJ, where his leadership has been vital in advancing initiatives centred on spatial justice and urban transformation. Haroun excels in managing cross-functional teams, overseeing logistical and technical support for various projects, and ensuring smooth coordination for workshops, exhibitions, and other significant events at AZHJ.

In addition to his artistic talents, Haroun possesses a profound understanding of project management and logistical coordination. He has successfully organised and curated workshops and events that explore the fusion of art, culture, and urbanism, placing a strong emphasis on inclusivity and stakeholder engagement. His ability to design compelling visuals, infographics, and layouts for exhibitions and focus groups enables him to effectively communicate complex ideas to a broad audience, advancing the cause of spatial justice.

Haroun’s academic background comprises a Bachelor of Arts in Audio Engineering from Middlesex University, which has provided him with a robust technical skill set that bolsters his creative process. Additionally, his role involves offering logistical and technical support to researchers, ensuring seamless operations across AZHJ’s projects.

Driven by a passion for social change, Haroun is dedicated to using art as a means to challenge urban inequalities and advocate for social justice. Through his leadership at AZHJ, he continues to integrate art, culture, and urbanism, creating vibrant, inclusive spaces that resonate with diverse communities and contribute to sustainable urban development.
